I have a beret type cap that was in my late fathers belongings. The name on the inside of the cap is Private R Jensen 4625 5 squad 20th Hussars. On the outside of the cap it states British Empire Services League Canadian Legion Glendale Calif. Canadian Legion 40. My father served on D.E.M.S travelling the Atlantic during WW11 and the ships did carry Canadian Troops. I have no idea how my father came to have this item. The only information I can find on Private Jensen is that he was awarded the QSA medal.

I would be very grateful for any information you may be able to give me.

The Glendale post 40 was formed in about 1933. I have a publication dated about 1955 which has a report from most Western States Canadian Legion posts – however I am sorry that post 40 did not submit anything that year. The Ladies Auxiliary of Post 40 did submit a report but I do not see the name “Jensen” as a past officer or founding member. I will check with our Past Commander and see if he has any information on Pvt. Jensen. The cap you show on Rootschat is the style that was worn by our Legion up until recent time. If your father was a Canadian Legion member in Southern California perhaps he would be acquainted with Pvt. Jensen and was given the hat by a survivor. Doug Lock

My contact at HQ said that Branch 40 has been folded into Branch 22 and that there are only two living members from old Branch 40. One has never been to a meeting and the other person has difficulty remembering details from the past. Our records only go back to 2001 and there is no record of any Jensen. He must have been a member a long time ago. Sorry I couldn’t have been more help.
