Our Zone Commander, Ron Davidson recently presented a shadow box to Mayor Roger Chandler of Arcadia California. The presentation was made to honor the service of Roger’s father, Stanley Roy Chandler, who served his 4 year RCAF enlistment as a Coxswain operating a rescue boat on Vancouver Island during WWII in the Western Air Command Marine Squadron, Marine Branch of the RCAF. The shadow box contains a Canadian Flag of the era, a pin, two squadron patches and Stanley’s service book. Many stories and memories were shared among those who attended this ceremony. Mayor Roger Chandler’s wish is that the shadow box be donated to an appropriate museum on Vancouver Island.

Around this time of year the Royal Canadian Legion here in Southern California looks forward to two major events. The first is the Pre-Memorial Day Service that is held at the Inglewood Park Cemetery and the other event is a booth that we set up at the Scottish Festival in Costa Mesa on Memorial Day weekend where we hand out the famous red poppy for people to proudly wear. Unfortunately the Corona Virus situation has caused us to cancel both events. Please watch this page for updates on our future meetings. We hope to see you soon.

Read the article on page 79 in the November/December 2017 issue of The Legion Magazine. It describes the project that obtained markers for Canadian Veteran’s that are buried in the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, California. Our Zone was instrumental in seeing this project through to completion.
